Director Safety Management System Assurance

Closing date: 31-Mar-2026

Description

This is a key leadership position shaping the safety culture and flight safety strategy across the entire Group of Companies. The role combines data-driven decision-making, strategic leadership, international regulatory standards, and direct operational impact.

You will not simply manage processes — you will define and advance a mature, transparent, and performance-driven Safety Management System (SMS) at group level.

Your Scope of Impact

  • You will lead the full spectrum of flight safety management — from analytics and performance indicators to training, investigations, and regulatory approvals.
  • You will oversee flight safety data analysis and the development of analytical reports, ensuring transparent visibility of safety performance and alignment with the Group’s strategic safety objectives. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring Safety Performance Indicators (SPIs) across the Group.
  • You will provide strategic leadership of Safety Management System (SMS) programs, including training and competency development for Group personnel, as well as oversight of safety programs for terminal services. Through the development and implementation of compliance monitoring training programs, you will ensure regulatory and corporate requirements are embedded into daily operations.
  • In this role, you will manage the Flight Safety Assurance Program, including safety data collection, analysis, and reporting, as well as the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Program, fostering a proactive, risk-based safety culture and continuous improvement.
  • A key focus will be the development of an integrated safety information ecosystem: harmonizing hazard reporting sources, maintaining the hazard register, analyzing data trends, and assessing their impact on safety objectives to support effective prioritization at management level.
  • You will ensure the accuracy, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance of all safety and corporate security documentation, establish sustainable control and oversight processes for managers, and implement a structured framework for ongoing audits and reviews aligned with the requirements of both AOCs.
  • You will also lead and further develop the Substance Abuse Prevention Program, reinforcing high standards of safety, accountability, and professionalism across the Group of Companies.

International Exposure and High-Impact Challenges

  • You will lead safety-related change management (non-project) associated with the introduction of the Boeing 787, and play a key role in securing FAA approval for operations in the United States, working at the intersection of corporate governance, international regulations, and operational readiness.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aviation Safety, Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Management, or related fields.
• Additional certifications in SMS, Human Factors, Aviation Quality, or Risk Management (ICAO SMS, IOSA, IATA) are a plus.
7+ years of professional experience in aviation safety / SMS.
• Strong knowledge of ICAO Annex 19, SMS principles, and international regulations (EASA, FAA, and local authorities).
• Experience with flight safety data analysis, SPI / SPT, audits, risk management, and quality management systems (ISO 9001).
• Proficiency in hazard identification and root cause analysis methods (Bowtie, MEDA, HFACS).
• Strong leadership, communication skills, and experience collaborating with regulatory authorities.
• Ability to apply aviation standards in complex operational environments.
• English: Upper-Intermediate or higher.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Integrity, objectivity, negotiation skills, and results-oriented mindset.
